Phonics & Read, Write Inc. Programme

Phonics and Early Literacy Skills.

Literacy taught at Greenbank School is differentiated to meet student need.  A systematic approach to teaching literacy is mostly undertaken within key stage 3 using the Read, Write Inc. Phonic programme and Fresh Start. Both of these systematic approaches are widely recognised by the local authority and the DfE. This systematic comprehensive literacy programme is designed to motivate students into reading and writing; importantly phonics is not taught in isolation. Throughout both these systematic programmes on-going assessment tracks progress and ensures students are learning at the right level. Fiction and non-fiction books are taught in both Read, Write Inc. and Fresh Start. For a comprehensive guide to this scheme published by the Oxford University Press please visit the website at www.readwriteinc.com

Literacy in KS4 & KS5

Within Key stage 4 and 5 the focus of literacy moves towards the students, using and applying the skills developed in key stage 3 by gaining OCR accreditation
