Manchester University Visits

We are building links with local universities and we have been lucky enough to be offered 3 sessions at The University of Manchester Nursing Department, covering aspects of First Aid.

Students will be split into 2 groups, and will be attending on either a Wednesday or a Thursday.  Your child will be attending every Wednesday / Thursday for 3 consecutive weeks, starting the week beginning Monday 10th June 2019.


Manchester University Visit Itinerary and Dates

12th June and repeated on 13th June


  • Assessing for danger 
  • Shouting for help 
  • Care of the unconscious person
  • Calling the emergency services
  • Cardio pulmonary resuscitation
  • Automated External Defibrillator (AED)


19th June and repeated on 20th June


  • Control of bleeding 
  • Burns and scalds  
  • Bone fractures/limb sprains and strains
  • Choking
  • Tour of the Campus and University Museum


26th June and repeated on 27th June


  • Temperature 
  • Pulse 
  • Respiration rate 
  • Blood pressure 
  • Oxygen saturation  
  • Neurological assessment to include pupil response (shining a light into the eyes) reflex response.
  • Chest auscultation (listening to the chest with a (stethoscope)
  • Aseptic dressing - a dressing applied to a wound.


If any medical conditions are observed during the sessions on a student or staff member, it is the university staff members’ duty of care to inform me and then I will inform you as parents / carers of the concern.  An example of this may be low blood pressure.  If you have any questions regarding this, please don’t hesitate to get in contact with your child’s class teacher.
